Welcome to this year’s High Sheriff’s Awards for Enterprise. Now in their 15th year, the Awards were introduced in 2006 by the then High Sheriff of Cheshire, David Briggs, MBE KStJ to recognise outstanding achievements by enterprises in Cheshire, Halton and Warrington.
The High Sheriff’s Awards for Enterprise are well established within our region and culminate in an important date in the business year. Having not been able to hold the Awards Evening for the last two years, and also reflecting on the impact of the pandemic on our business community, we have decided to take the opportunity to update the format of the event. Winners will be announced at a celebration to be held at Churchill House, home to the University’s Chester Business School on 7 April 2022. The Awards will take place during an early evening reception, with all finalists given two tickets for senior executives to attend. Drinks and canapes will be served, allowing time for networking and we are delighted that Dr Gyles Brandreth, celebrated author, broadcaster, and Chancellor of the University of Chester, has agreed to be our Master of Ceremonies for the evening, which I’m sure will ensure an entertaining and memorable occasion for all.
When I retired after a long career in Financial Services, I was asked by Cheshire West and Chester Council If I would help to set up a Development Board for Ellesmere Port to drive economic growth and help advise on priorities for the town. I chaired the Board for five years before joining the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership Board, where I chaired the Strategy Board and the Cheshire Science Corridor Enterprise Zone Board which includes Alderley Science Park, Birchwood Park and Thornton Energy park. These roles have allowed me to meet many of our terrific Cheshire businesses and realise what a great diverse business community we have. The last 18 months have also highlighted the vital role we can all play in helping our voluntary sector as they provide vital services to our residents, which is why we have included an award linked to the third sector and a community business award.
These prestigious business accolades have attracted support from companies and organisations, who recognise the spirit of enterprise and development in the region, and the Awards are made possible thanks to significant contributions from these generous and loyal sponsors.
I urge you to consider the details of these prestigious awards and encourage you to consider applying in one or more of the categories.
Please do not hesitate to contact us (see details below) if you have any queries regarding the categories or require further guidance on submitting your entry.
